Filet Shawl Progress

Finally got to row 20 and a beyond.  Picture is through row 23.  Coming along okay, not as happy with it as I would like, but growing on me.  The yarn would definitely look better with a different design, even a simple filet, filet offset, V or V offset stitch, but NOT changing as think it will come out okay in the long run.

A little concerned it is getting too big (wide) as the bottom is measuring about 72 inches right now, so may need to adjust increases before I'm done,  Right now should fit okay, need to try on to check before next increase row.

The filet pattern is beginning to show, flower about half done.  Have to cannibalize the other cake for additional pink to finish the flower, doing that now.  A couple of white rows after flower, then finish body with the blue/grey.  Haven't decided on final trim round color or stitch hopefully it'll come to me before I get that far.  Glad I don't have to rush to get it done.

Filet Shawl for Mom

Had to regroup.  Got started on row 16 when I realized I hadn't done a mirror image in my work.  Take out through row 9.  Started again, doing mirror image then part way through row 10 found that I had done some mirror and some not so take out again.  Did what I should have done in the first place -- copied the spreadsheet as a picture then flipped to get the mirror image written down.  Took less than 2 minutes including printing the mirror image document.  Starting at row 9 again in the morning.

Just think, if I had done what I should have done in the first place, I would be almost done if not done with the main shawl by now,  Oh well, what is is what is.  Lesson learned, again.

Will post picture tomorrow when get some more rows done,

Mom's Shawl 2

I have been busy lately, designing another shawl for Mom.  Coming along nicely have a prototype of the grid (partial) and the graph finished, started crocheting it.  Will be a modified filet grid using extended double crochet and skipping 1 stitch instead of 2.  Hopefully it'll look good.  Will post a progress picture in a day or 2, need to revisit my grid graph doesn't look quite right this morning, but do believe it is me not the graphing.

Have 2 rounds on Swiffer pad for my daughter, need to "try" it on before I finish today.  First 1 I have tried so will be interesting to see how it fits and whether it will stay on when using.  Hope so,  Will post when I have it finished.

Anyone doing anything exciting in the crochet world?

New Projects and Yarn Frustration

I got very irritated when I saw a Joann Fabric add about a yarn I was interested in because of the colors, frustration came when was looking up the yarn specifications gave ounces but no yardage, no weight, but from picture and recommended hook assume worsted weight (4), stated number of scarfs it would make but no scarf size or stitch for this number. Believe it was Caron Jumbo something.  In looking at some yarn for projects I have in mind, I am noticing different approximate yards for the same ounce notation depending on brand, so 12 oz means little until I develop an brand's ounce and yard table.  Will share when it is done.  But on back burner for a bit,

Daughter saw a crocheted reusable Swiffer pad and asked for 1.  Working on prototype, have the "pad" done and measured to the mop pad.  Slightly smaller to account for stretch and remain on, will work on finishing edges and ends now,  Used some scrap acrylic 4 with H hook for prototype.  Did the pad in double crochet with single crochet front post alternating 3 and 3 gives the pad a wavy texture.  Will do some more in cotton is the design ends up working for her.

Designing a new shawl for Mom, has to be done by end of August when I see her again.  Know that sounds like a long time but it will go quickly.  Think I have a prototype beginning that will work and I like.  Need to do more rows to be sure it will work as it lengthens and the width increases.  Then will have the information to graph a filet stitch.  Using scrap 3 with I hook, extended double crochet and a wide shell (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).  The H and J hook concepts didn't work out.  The Shawl will be made using Mandala/Unicorn (#3) yarn.

Progress will be reported as I proceed.

Happy Crocheting

New Shawl Design Prototype

I have spent the last couple of days modeling ideas for a shawl for Mom. As she likes the fit of the pineapple using that for a base guide.  Tried several stitches, leaf models mainly, didn't like any of them.  Then modeled filet, that is going to work. Short prototype picture below.  Now the filet picture to go in it.
Have a couple of ideas to consider as well as some rose filet graphs I've graphed several years ago.  The prototype is a modified filet - skip 1 instead of 2.  May change stitch from a dc to an extended double or triple will decide soon.

New shawl will be Mandala/Unicorn, using J hook.  Modeling done with scrap   Mandala.
