The technique is the same with all extended stitches, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through 1 loop on hook, yarn over and finish your stitch as normal. They can be used on any stitch except slip and chain, including extending and extended stitch, Basically they add height the width of your yarn or thread.

As you can see the height build is much smoother using the extended stitches than the regular ones. A crocheter can get very creative with curves, fans, and anything else to get the height and look they want.
